URGENT MESSAGE TO RESIDENTS ALONG THE PROPOSED HS2 LINE

URGENT MESSAGE TO RESIDENTS ALONG THE PROPOSED HS2 LINE

We are aware that the Department for Transport has started sending out letters to those whose houses will potentially be destroyed by HS2. The letter is a crude attempt to encourage the belief that HS2 will just happen and to encourage owners of afflicted properties to give up. Do not be taken in ! This letter is not a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) as The Government lacks the power to promote a CPO and would not gain the power before a Hybrid Bill for HS2 received Royal Assent.

Importantly, HS2 is NOT a done deal. Bucks County Council, Chiltern District Council, the various Stop HS2 Action Groups and this Association continue to work to fight off HS2. In addition. it is highly probable that there will be legal actions against the flawed processes the Government have used to date on HS2.

Commenting Andrew Garnett Chairman of Chesham and Amersham Conservative Association said " I am angered and appalled that the Government appears to be seeking to rush people in to selling their properties along the line. There is a long way to go before that can or should happen. I understand the anger, anxiety and distress that many along the line feel about this project and would urge residents affected by this Department for Transport letter to resist the rather unsubtle approach that is being made and to continue to work with us to see this scheme off. Don't be bullied! Very significantly there has not yet been a detailed  Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the proposed route. This is a legal requirement. A full EIA may well lead to further significant changes in the Government's proposed routing.

I am also reminded of the words of the Secretary of State for Transport acting on behalf of her residents on Heathrow Runway 3 " if the Government will not listen... Ministers will find they have to listen in the courts." The fight to stop HS2 is only just beginning."

Cllr Andrew Garnett,

Chairman of Chesham and Amersham Conservative Association
