Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan addresses Mencap Meeting

Cheryl was joined by other candidates on Monday evening the first day of the election campaign to listen to the Voices from our local Mencap organisation. Speaking to a packed meeting she covered topics from specialized admissions to hospital to independent living, listened to the complex issues facing Carers in navigating the administrative systems and talked about her ongoing work with autism.

This was the first time Mencap had conducted this pre election hustings and she congratulated them on the initiative and agreed to sign up to the election pledge from Mencap and to continue to support better facilities. The meeting also heard about the increases in the number of specialist beds available in Buckinghamshire and the new day care centre which will be opening shortly in Chesham.
