PRESS RELEASE FROM RT HON CHERYL GILLAN MP, HOUSE OF COMMONS, LONDON SW1A 0AA

Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan MP spoke up on behalf of her constituents in Chesham and Amersham at Prime Minister's Question time on Wednesday 28 November.

Cheryl asked;

"The Prime Minister is aware that the Government is consulting on the compensation packages to be offered if HS2 goes ahead. This is a very critical issue in my constituency. I would like the Prime Minister to give his personal commitment to study the proposal for the final packages and ensure that those people whose lives and properties will be destroyed or damaged by this project if it goes ahead, are generously and fairly compensated."

The Prime Minister said he "agreed absolutely" with the MP for Chesham and Amersham. He said HS2 Ltd is undertaking a consultation with "compensation as good as HS1 and for motorway schemes" with an advance purchase scheme for those directly affected and another for those in the zones nearby.

"I am very happy to discuss with her and others how the scheme works best," said Mr Cameron.
