HS2: CHESHAM AND AMERSHAM CONSERVATIVE ASSOCIATION SAYS THE FIGHT GOES ON

CHESHAM AND AMERSHAM CONSERVATIVE ASSOCIATION SAYS THE FIGHT GOES ON.

MEMBERS CONDEMN THE GOVERNMENT FOR FAILING TO LISTEN TO THE TRANSPORT SELECT COMMITTEE AND CONSULTATION RESPONSES.

Andrew Garnett, Chairman of Chesham and Amersham Conservative Association said "This is an appalling decision for Britain, for the communities up and down the line and for Chesham and Amersham in particular. At a time when public opinion is moving against HS2 throughout the country as demonstrated by a recent YouGov poll it is astonishing that the Government has not taken more time to understand the eminently sensible alternatives to this line that are on offer - improvements to the West Coast Mainline, investment in the digital economy the true future of our nation to name but a few. This line fails to deliver extra capacity where it is most needed, “…has a business case that has been comprehensively demolished and an environmental case that is, to say the least, lacking in any credibility” . At a time of national austerity we cannot as a nation justify spending £32billions on a vanity project. We wholly endorse the work that 51M led by Martin Tett is taking and stand ready to support him and them howsoever we can We fight on. We fight to win"
