Secure employment and a decent wage are key to transforming the life chances of people across the country so I’m delighted to see another strong set of figures this month. There are more people in work than ever before and wages are continuing their upward climb, which is great news for hardworking families who have seen a rise in their living standards over the past year. With around 750,000 vacancies at any one time and full-time work making up nearly 75% of the total rise in employment since 2010, our long-term economic plan is delivering jobs across the country and giving more people the security of a wage.

Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan addresses Mencap Meeting

Cheryl was joined by other candidates on Monday evening the first day of the election campaign to listen to the Voices from our local Mencap organisation. Speaking to a packed meeting she covered topics from specialized admissions to hospital to independent living, listened to the complex issues facing Carers in navigating the administrative systems and talked about her ongoing work with autism. This was the first time Mencap had conducted this pre election hustings and she congratulated them on the initiative and agreed to sign up to the election pledge from Mencap and to continue to support better facilities. The meeting also heard about the increases in the number of specialist beds available in Buckinghamshire and the new day care centre which will be opening shortly in Chesham.

Thank You From Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan MP

I am incredibly honoured to be re-elected as the MP for Chesham and Amersham for a sixth term, with an increased majority. May I send a huge thank you to everyone who voted and campaigned for me, fellow candidates and the Conservative Party over the last few weeks. For the next five years I will continue to work hard to serve the interests of all my constituents. I was very pleased to see so many Conservatives elected to Chiltern District Council as well as our Parish and Town Councils. We had a fantastic range of candidates for these elections, and I look forward to working with them as they serve our community over the coming years. My commiserations to the defeated candidates who also worked hard. The Conservative Party, now returned to Government with a clear majority in the House of Commons, has a golden opportunity to continue its work getting our country moving into the right direction. The Conservatives had not won a majority since 1992 - when I was first elected to Parliament. I look forward to the Prime Minister implementing our manifesto over the coming years which means the country will benefit from a clear economic plan: more jobs and apprenticeships, new businesses, the opportunity to redefine our relationship with the EU together with a referendum and good control of public spending. Over the course of the election campaign, I was able to meet and talk with a large number of constituents about the issues most important to them. HS2 remains a chief concern for people living in the Chilterns, and I continue to fight this flawed project, working to improve the environmental protection for the AONB as well as pursuing compensation issues for those directly affected by the proposals. Yours sincerely Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan, MP for Chesham and Amersham
