Welcome—and thank you for taking time to find out more about us.
Formed in 1972, following boundary changes to electoral constituencies in Buckinghamshire, the Association’s commitments are fourfold:
- To work for the election of Conservative Representatives at National, European and Local and government levels;
- To raise funds to carry out those aims;
- To provide support services for our Member of Parliament;
- To vigorously OPPOSE HS2 through the Chilterns AONB
Our Member of Parliament since 1992 Cheryl Gillan was re-eleced on 6 May 2010. Cheryl holds regular surgeries at her Parliamentary office in Amersham. For an appointment, please telephone her secretary, Mary Shaw, on 01494 721577.
There is a small core of Officers who have day to day responsibility for the smooth running of the Association. Lots of the work is devolved to the BRANCHES which are set up in each polling ward or group of wards within the parliamentary constituency. Each has a Chairman and Committee who organise election campaigns (under the guidance of the Agent) and put on social and political events. Details of these are listed under Events.
The Branches also play a vital role in maintaining membership of the Association by organising drives in their own areas.
We are lucky to have many enthusiastic volunteers who work in all kinds of ways to help us to achieve our aims. It is a belief in the basic tenets of Conservative philosophy that brings us together: freedom of the individual, the encouragement of enterprise, the reward of effort, the rule of law, family values, Queen and country etc. If you share these beliefs, do read on to discover some of the ways in which we volunteers put our spare time, energy or cash to good use to help the cause in which we all believe. Most importantly, we do enjoy ourselves in the process!
Some step fearlessly into election campaigns, relishing contact on the doorstep with the electorate. Others feel more at home laying on social events and there are those who prefer to work quietly, behind the scenes, stuffing envelopes etc. Unable to give of their time, yet more help swell our funds with donations.
Yes—you have the picture. If you would like to help, we will be delighted for you to join us. To become a Member of the Association, please download the membership form or visit the contact us and we will send you an application form.
When you have joined, we will send you a membership card, a note of the Branch to which you will belong and details of forthcoming events. I hope I will have the opportunity to meet you at one of them soon.
