Councils launch HS2 challenge
Members of 51m, the alliance of local authorities opposed to HS2, have served a formal letter on the Secretary of State for Transport asking her to rescind her decision to proceed with HS2 and giving notice that they may otherwise challenge the decision by way of judicial review.
HS2 is NOT a done deal. Bucks County Council, Chiltern District Council, the various Stop HS2 Action Groups and this Association continue to work to fight off HS2. In addition. it is highly probable that there will be legal actions against the flawed processes the Government have used to date on HS2.
We are aware that the Department for Transport has started sending out letters to those whose houses will potentially be destroyed by HS2.
Next step - Judicial Review
Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire County Council, said: "We are a customer-focused authority. The public have told us time after time they want decent roads. Spending money on improving our roads will help boost local businesses and make Buckinghamshire an even more attractive option to visitors and new businesses.
Even the House of Commons Transport Select Committee damns HS2 with faint praise.
It doesn't change the fact that economic case for HS2 is non existent .......
