 | Update on the Closure of Chesham Post Office 20th January 2010 |
 |
Cheryl Gillan MP reports on her continuing struggle to get Chesham Post office reopened.
"I have been in regular contact with the Post office over the Christmas period and several times this month to discuss the progress of the complex negotiations that have been taking place to re establish the service.
As I write, the Post office had no further news other than the availability of a temporary port a cabin which will become free from Marlow - as I understand it - from next month. Whilst welcoming the proposal from the Post Office that they should provide temporary services at Chesham, on the basis that something is better than nothing, this provides only a partial solution. I feel strongly that if the Town or District council is able to offer a location then it should be time limited with a definite date by which negotiations should be concluded. The ultimate goal must be the restoration of full post office services for the people of Chesham.
I am grateful to everyone who has contacted me on this matter and to the Town Councillors and District Councillors who have shared my concerns and to the Mayor who has convened this meeting.
I will continue to add my voice in making strong representations until we have the service fully restored."
